Travel Medicals

AIM

Overseas Travel Medicals are undertaken in order to highlight to individuals and employers any possible health risks to an employee when travelling overseas on company business. It will also provide the opportunity to brief employees on health risks associated with their destination as advised by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and our direct link with an organisation dedicated to providing up-to-date advice on health problems around the world and appropriate innoculations.

WHY INTRODUCE IT?

Although UK health and safety regulations cannot be enforced outside of the UK you as the employer have a duty of care to ensure the health and safety of your employees while on Company business. Indeed your employers liability insurance policy may require you to apply similar health and safety standards to employees working abroad as those working within the UK and also require you to carry out regular health checks.

In carrying out travel medicals you may become aware of  an employees state of health and any medical conditions which you will need to manage  in order to take the correct decision or to ensure the correct control measures are in place.

WHAT IS IT?

Travel Medicals  may be undertaken by an Occupational Health Physician or an Occupational Health Nurse who will examine the employees medical and occupational history in order to determine if they have any health issues which should be taken into account when travelling overseas. Innoculations may be required depending on the destination and current travel advice from FCO.

The assessment is based on a detailed questionnaire and will include a discussion with the medical practitioner as well as some physical checks.  IOH will ensure that the travel medicals are geared to the risks faced by your employees in order to ensure that we offer a valid and risk based service to you. The employee will also receive medical guidance based on their health past and present and the health risks associated with the destination. Travel packs which include basic medical and first aid supplies can also be provided in line with your Companies travel policy.
