Health Screening
AIM
To meet the statutory requirement placed on your business by undertaking health surveillance on workers exposed to health risks during their working day.
WHY INTRODUCE IT?
- It is a legal requirement.
- In addition to your legal requirements to undertake this, a successful health screening programme will act as an audit on your control measures and risk assessments to ensure that they remain operationally effective.
- To demonstrate to your workers, the HSE and your insurers that you are taking all reasonable precautions in managing health risks at work. These risks constitute a much larger financial cost in relation to claims and litigation than accidents. It is essential to prove that you are not causing harm to your employees or others as a result of your working processes.
WHAT IS IT?
Health Surveillance is appropriate for workers exposed to specific health risks at work. Most of these risks are covered by relevant statutory requirements and include, but are not restricted to:
- Audiometry and hearing as required by the Noise Regulations.
- COSHH surveillance for exposure to substances, e.g. dust
- Vibration and HAVs surveillance
- Sensitizers affecting the skin or respiratory tract.
- Asbestos medicals
- Lead medicals
- Fork lift truck driver medicals
- HGV driver medicals
- Divers medicals, etc.
IOH will carry out or can assist you to carry out health screening risk assessments to ensure that only screening necessary to comply with relevant legislation or that which benefits the business and its employees is undertaken.
