"Executive" Medicals
AIM
IOH does not believe that the unfocussed, by-rote, medical screening that characterises the traditional executive medical offers clients value for money, however “personalized” they may appear. Nonetheless, we know that a company’s key senior people, working to a demanding business schedule, may want guidance and help with personal (or family) health concerns but defer seeking advice because access to their GP is hard to fit into a busy work diary. This can mean that potentially serious health problems are not picked up at an early stage when they are most easily treated, or distracting worries can persist unnecessarily. In the long run, this is neither in the best interests of the individual’s health, nor their employer.
WHY INTRODUCE IT?
Over the years, IOH has developed a service for key executives that offers them convenient, personal access to health advice via a “Priority Consultation” with one of our specialist Occupational Physicians. This service can be tailored to the specific needs of the employer: advice can be by telephone or by a face-to-face consultation arranged on-site at the workplace occupational health facilities to fit around the executive’s schedule. Alternatively, the physician can come to the executive’s office, or the individual can be seen at IOH’s consulting rooms.
WHAT IS IT?
The Priority Consultation can be initiated by direct contact with the doctor or a confidential telephone discussion between the executive and the doctor. The Priority Consultation allows the executive to describe their health concerns and obtain advice on what, if any, further action they should take and with what urgency. Where necessary, our physician will liaise directly, there and then, with a GP or the most appropriate hospital specialist to arrange further appointments or investigations on the executive’s behalf. If it is beneficial to carry out screening tests via occupational health, these can be arranged discretely. The physician will also explore with the executive how best to approach any work issues (e.g. should the business trip abroad in 2 weeks time be re-arranged etc.) and agree who needs to know and how they should be told.
In IOH’s experience, even the toughest of Managers can develop worries about their own health or the health of a family member. Our discrete, convenient, medical “path-finding” service is the most cost-efficient and effective way for companies to help their senior managers when, from time to time, they need medical advice.
Confidentiality is of paramount importance in all occupational health referrals and this is even more so when it applies to your Executives.
