Notable contributions include:

How refreshing to find an Occupational health provider that actually knows business and all the trials and tribulations that this involves. IOH have always proved to be completely adaptable to the needs of the business in both the good times and the hard times, with a wide range of resources always being available when called upon. I have found them excellent to work with and you can always rely upon not only good advice but the right advice. I have been so impressed that when I changed companies I brought them with me to my new employer. I would do the same again in the future. Keep up the good work !

Since contracting out the provision of FMA service to IOH Northumbria Police has seen massive benefits in terms of reduction of absence related to sickness which is now at its lowest for 5 years. Other benefits of IOH’s involvement in Occupational Health Services within Northumbria Police include the increased trust in the service from officers, staff and staff associations along with the invaluable input that IOH provide to management in relation to strategic decision making in relation to the health and well-being of our staff and officers in the unique environment in which we operate.

Head of Human Resources

Cummins and IOH have been in partnership for over 15 years. From an environment where injuries were common place, treatment was nothing beyond first aid and sickness absence was treated as extra holiday, we have achieved a position where absence is consistently under 2%: in 2008 55% of employees recorded zero absence and 21% of employees were recognised for zero absence over 5 years. An environment has been created where, when asked what are the top three benefits of working for Cummins, Occupational Health Care is consistently ranked in the top three by employees at Darlington.

The costs which used to be associated with payment of sickness benefits are now being saved and redirected into more positive use: the installation in 2008 of a new fitness and physiotherapy facility being the latest benefit to accrue from the partnership.

Throughout the partnership years Cummins staff, HR, Safety and manufacturing management have worked closely together with IOH to analyse data, set objectives, establish the key criteria, develop processes and set targets. No member of staff is ever absent without contact, their reasons for absence known and the resources which aid recovery made available quite often through private medical care. Cummins most valuable asset, its employees, are now cared for in what is widely recognised and
evidenced in surveys as a caring, supportive environment brought about through an effective partnership with a well qualified and professional business, working together for the common good of the workforce under their care.

P C Henderson Ltd employs 75 people at their site in Bowburn and has been manufacturing sliding and folding hardware for doors and windows since 1921. In 2006 the company had an absentee rate of 11% with muscular skeletal problems being the main health issue. To try and improve upon these figures the company introduced occupational health provision for all employees, working alongside IOH.

By 2009 all employees had been given base line medicals and a programme of surveillance for audio, skin, respiratory problems and DSE had been introduced. During this period absenteeism had reduced to less than 2%. The company also provide employees with free physiotherapy treatment for both work related and non work related muscular problems.
PC Henderson Ltd then began looking for pro-active ways of sustaining the excellent work previously carried out and IOH suggested that we should work towards achieving the NHS, Working for Health Award as well as signing up to the Mindful Employer Charter.

With help, advice and training from the IOH team, Occupational Health is now seen as a major part of PC Henderson’s Health and Safety culture.
